Partition Recovery on Mac

  • Mac is hardware oriented graphical user interface operating system developed and marketed by Apple Inc for their Macintosh computers. Mac OS X released in different versions like Panther, Jaguar, Leopard, Snow Leopard, Lion, etc. Mac uses Hierarchical File System (HFS) to store and retrieve the files but do supports FAT file system. In Mac we call each partition as volume. When compared to Windows, Mac is highly secure and reliable operating system and provides a huge set of built-in applications to manipulate different file types, but when it comes to cost, hardware and software compatibility, Mac lags a step behind, because it runs only on Intel and PowerPC Mac platforms, does not support most of the third party applications and bit expensive.

Apart from few disadvantages, Mac is very good in application performance, file secure (virus free) and provides crystal clear graphics. Hence, most of the people prefer Mac operating system on their personal or workstation computers. Even though Mac uses reliable and secure file system, loss of data is a common problem as like in Windows operating system. Sometimes Mac users end up with huge data loss due to deletion or loss of Mac volumes. The most common scenarios where Mac users face huge data loss are formatting a volume, accidental deletion of volumes and sometimes Mac volumes becomes inaccessible due to volume header corruption, Node corruption of Catalog files, master directory block corruption, etc. In this context if the Master Boot Record is severely corrupted then it damages the file system of the partition. It the file system gets damaged then the operating system fails to recognise the file system of the partition so that you cannot access the data stored on that partition making the partition RAW. In such critical situation it is recommended to employ partition recovery application to retrieve files from RAW partition.

In order to be safe in terms of Mac data, it is advised to take some precautionary measures like taking a proper backup before doing major changes to Mac hard drive, before formatting or deleting a partition ensure that you are proceeding with a proper volume, etc. Some worst scenarios cannot be avoided. In case if you end up with losing or deleting a Mac volume, stop using the hard drive, because using deleted partition recovery software, deleted or lost Mac partitions can be recovered before overwriting the hard drive.

Partition Recovery is one such popular Mac data recovery software which facilitates you to recover data from formatted, partitioned and re-partitioned Mac volumes. This utility is incorporated with all the necessary Mac data recovery modules with which it recovers more than 300 file types from hard drives, external drives, USB flash drives, iPods, etc. Using this tool you can recover deleted or lost Mac partition along the hierarchy of files stored. This tool supports recovery of data from HFS+, HFSX, FAT16 and FAT32 partitions. This universal binary application supports both Intel and PowerPC Mac platforms. This utility can also be used for lost partition recovery on external hard drive.

Note: To restore corrupt partition on Windows 7, Vista and Win XP you can use Partition Recovery tool.

Following are the steps to recover deleted Mac partition:
